FSU Stone Building
florida state university - tallahassee, florida
College of Education, Addition and renovation
Childers Construction Companyrecently completed construction of the College of Education Building Expansion and Renovation project at Florida State University. The project consisted of constructing an addition of 23,000 sf and the renovation of approximately 11,000 sf in the existing Stone Building. The University continued to add scope to this project which included the replacement of all the main electrical switchgear, motor replacements on existing AHU’s, added controls and valves for better building automation and the replacement of all pneumatic control valves throughout the entire building in order to provide better heating and air volumes. Additional classroom renovations as well as upgrading all existing bathroom finishes and ADA compliance were also added to the scope of work.
This project had a total construction time of 16 months which encompassed both the addition and renovation. The addition and existing ground floor renovations were completed by the end of August 2008 and the additional renovation work in the existing building was phased over the end of the year.
The project was completed on schedule.
Site location is always difficult on campus with parking, lay down areas and general mobility for construction. This site was no exception. To combat the parking issue, FSU allowed us to use designated construction parking areas near the site for all personal worker vehicles. Materials were delivered daily to minimize the amount of materials stored on-site. Staging and on-site safety was a key component to ensure that the students and staff remained protected and undisturbed throughout construction. |
